O'Hole-y Nights, Part 2

*** Christmas Eve ***
"Come on Janet!" Daniel pleaded with Dr. Janet Frasier, CMO of the SGC. "There are no teams offworld. Only a skeleton crew is on for the next two days. He's your only patient. Your staff doesn't want to spend Christmas here and neither do you or Dr. Warner."
"Janet," Daniel sighed and leaned in closer. "This time of the year is hard enough for him. Don't make him spend it in the infirmary."
Janet gave him a calculating look weighing his argument. As a friend she wanted to send him home but the doctor side of her said to keep him there.
"Janet, please," Daniel pleaded giving her the puppy dog eyes. "I'll stay with him the entire time. Follow any instructions that you give. I'll even set up the futon that's in the study. You and Cassie were supposed to go over tomorrow. You can check on him. Janet please"
Janet tore her gaze away from Daniel's powerful eyes and looked over at the man in question. Colonel Jack O'Neill. Leader of SG-1. Second in Command of the SGC. Defender of Earth. Enemy of the Goa'uld. "Father" for Cassie. All around good guy despite the skeletons in his closet. Always thinking of others before him. He was sleeping at the moment. His plaster covered leg propped up on several pillows. A bandage covered the healing lacerations on his forehead. His face was still pale though not the deathly white it was when he was brought back. Jerry had him up on crutches earlier in the day and he handled them well. The only thing that she was really worried about now would be if the mild chest infection that he had would flare up again. But she could just as well monitor him at home.
"All right you win." Janet caved in promptly fixing Daniel with a death glare as he almost jumped with joy. "Only if you do everything I tell you."
A grin split Daniel's face in half as he followed Janet into her office.
*** Christmas Day ***
"Daniel when the others getting here?" Jack questioned, ever so slowly making his way out of the study towards the dinning area.
"Anytime now," Daniel answered walking out from the kitchen. "Sam and Janet are coming over earlier then planned to help me finish cooking and"
"You're letting Carter cook?" Jack raised an eyebrow at Daniel. "You realize that I'm not in the mood nor the condition to have to replace my kitchen."
"Give it a rest Jack. It was an accident three years ago."
"Two."
"Whatever," Daniel replied exasperated, wiping his hands off on the towel that was on his shoulder. "If it makes you feel better I'll make sure she's not in the kitchen by herself."
As if on cue, the doorbell rang.
"It does."
Daniel rolled his eyes and sighed before placing the dishtowel on the table and leaving to answer the door.
"Merry Christmas, Daniel," Sam greeted as he opened the door.
"Merry Christmas, Sam." Daniel moved past letting her inside.
"Merry Christmas, Daniel." Janet repeated Sam's words before quickly switching to doctor mode. "How'd it go last night?"
"Merry Christmas to you too, Janet. Good, Jack sleep the entire night and most of this morning also. Just woke up about two hours ago. And before you say anything, I woke him this morning to take the meds you sent then let him go back to sleep."
"Glad to hear it. Let me put this stuff down in the kitchen and I'll give him a once over."
"Go for it. By the way where's Cassie?"
"I'm right here," Cassie answered from behind an arm load of presents.
"Lemme help you with that." Daniel grabbed the two brightly wrapped presents, saving them from crashing to the floor.
"Thanks," Cassie answered. "Feliz Navidad Daniel."
"Spanish this semester?"
"Yeah French sucked," Cassie answered leading the way to the living room.
Daniel laughed as he followed in her wake.
"Good afternoon MajorCarter," Teal'c greeted with a nod, stomping the snow off of his feet he had an arm full of firewood. He had also spent the night at O'Neill's house.
"Merry Christmas, Teal'c," Sam replied looking up from the pot she was stirring on the stove.
"Teal'c, I like the hat," Janet commented pointing to Teal'c's "Mad Bomber Hat" and rejoining Sam.
"Thank you. It was a gift from O'Neill." Teal'c nodded again before taking his leave and going into the living room.
"How's Jack?" Daniel queried peaking over Sam's shoulder.
"He's fine and sleeping!" Janet grinned "He'll be out for ohhhh two hours at least. Gives us plenty of time to get everything finished"
"With out any extra help," Sam finished
"Cassie, stop beating up Ferretti and go wake up Jack," General Hammond ordered kindly placing the bowl of mashed potatoes on the sideboard.
Cassie leaned over and whispered something in Ferretti's ear before jumping off her seat on his chest and running to the study.
"Thanks General," Ferretti said gratefully. He grimaced as he rubbed his chest where Cassie had been sitting.
Jack had been sleeping peacefully the last two hours, totally oblivious to the clatter in the kitchen and the ruckus of everyone in the living room. Had was the word. He was no longer sleeping peacefully. It felt like something was crawling up his arms and chest. He shifted around changing his position until the sensation stopped then once again snuggled down into his blankets.
Relief didn't last long the feeling was back before he was even asleep. Next he noticed that warm air was tickling the skin underneath his nose and now his chin. Slowly, Jack opened his eyes blinking a few times adjusting to the light. When his eyes were focused he found a pair of dark glittering eyes staring back at him.
"Afternoon, sleepy head," Cassie said placing a kiss on his cheek before sitting back on the foot of the futon mindful of the broken leg.
"Afternoon to you too." Jack smiled and pulled himself upright.
"Everyone's here. Ferretti, the General, Kayla and Tessa. The General told me to come wake you up," Cassie explained moving out of the way as Jack swung his legs over to the side.
"Ah so time to eat. Tell me Sam left my kitchen still in one piece?" He questioned pulling himself up and situating his crutches.
"Geeze Jack give it up it was two years ago!" Cassie replied giggling as she followed him out of the study.
"Mamamasita, donde esta Santa Cleese...the vecto wit da bony knees...he comin' down da street wit no choos on his feet...and he's going to..." Jack sat in the recliner quietly singing to himself as he watched Kayla and Tessa eye the presents under the tree as they watched 'A Christmas Story' on TV. Janet had sent him directly there after they had finished eating.
"O'Neill what is it that you are singing?" Teal'c asked handing him a glass of water and a selection of pills from Janet.
"Santa Claus and His Old Lady." Jack tossed the pills in his mouth followed by a gulp of water. "It's by Cheech and Chong. It's a skit where Cheech is telling Chong who Santa Claus is and" He stopped realizing that he had lost Teal'c. "I'll play it for you some time Teal'c."
"Colonel Jack can we open the presents' yet??" Kayla climbing over the side of the chair on to Jack's lap.
Jack leaned over and whispered conspiratorialy,"Well I've been waiting to open them since this morning. But you know your Grandpa?" Kayla nodded seriously "He told me that I couldn't. So we have to wait until he says so."
"He's the General!" Kayla informed Jack her face expressionless but here eyes twinkled with mischief.
Kayla erupted with giggles as Jack started to tickle her relentlessly.
General Hammond observed the scene below him. Janet, Carter, Cassie was seated along with Teal'c on the couch, attempting to watch the movie that played across the TV screen over the noise of Kayla and Jack playing in the recliner. Daniel was seated in one of the armchairs one arm around Tessa who was seated on the arm of the chair. Ferretti was finishing loading the dishes into the dishwasher.
"Attention," Hammond called in his best command voice when Ferretti joined him from the kitchen. The effect was instantaneous. All activity stopped and heads swiveled in his direction. Hammond had to suppress a chuckle.
"You all have been waiting for this moment all year I'm sure." Hammond paused. "Without further ado, you may begin."
It didn't take a second before Kayla jumped off Jack's lap and started to dig through the presents calling names as she read the tags. With in minutes Jack's living room was covered with wrapping paper, tissue, gift bags, ribbons, bows, and those God awful packing peanuts.
Daniel snagged the last can of pop from the fridge and plopped down on the couch and propped his feet up on the coffee table. It was almost 11pm by the time that everyone had left. Jack and Kayla had crashed long before then in the recliner. Both worn out by the dayıs events. He and Teal'c had managed to get Jack awake long enough to make it to the study and changed before falling back asleep. Janet checked him over once again pleased that he was doing well.
Daniel looked around the room surveying the damage that was left. Most of the wrapping paper and stuff had already been picked up. He spotted a couple errant glasses and plates on the end tables and half wall on the dining room level. The tree that Teal'c had got at the last minute on Christmas Eve still shined. Outside, in the light from the flood light mounted above the patio doors Daniel could see the fresh snow beginning to fall.
Downing the remaining contents of the can Daniel stood up and collected the dishes still out. He made one final walk through the downstairs, looking for any trash or dishes missed and making sure that everything was secure. He finally unplugged the tree lights and turned off the TV.
Daniel checked on Jack once more pleased to find him deeply asleep still in the same position he left him in earlier.
"God bless you Jack," Daniel whispered as he backed out of the room leaving the door open a crack before heading upstairs to go to bed himself.
